Expressive Typography | DI Week 2

Another project for this week was to create an illustrated event poster for a real event. Being the goal to elicit the feeling of the event through your use of creative and expressive type.

THE PROCESS

I searched for different events and finally chose a baseball match that is due soon. I brainstormed how I wanted the poster to be composed and searched for my elements. I found a photo I liked of the team and edited it in Photoshop. Then I opened Illustrator and started creating the baseball icons of the bat and the ball. I extracted the color palette from the original logo of the team (Savannah Bananas), I looked and tried different typographies. I used various tools such as pen, fill and stroke, shapes, text, and eyedropper and used some effects for the main text to make it more visually appealing. With the bat and the ball, I created an exclamation point (!), the main typography is a script, is similar to the one in the original logo of the team, but I chose it not just for that reason but because I feel it adds a lot of movement, it's fun and striking. As a complimentary typography, I chose one sans serif to make a good contrast. The final touch was the original logo added to the poster to make it look official (even though this is just practice).

THE SUBJECT OF MY POSTER

According to Wikipedia: The Savannah Bananas are an exhibition barnstorming baseball team based in Savannah, Georgia. The team was founded in 2016 and has played at Grayson Stadium since its inaugural season.

THE POSTER

I feel I got a nice poster, that is eye-catching, and the text and the photo have that fun movement. This project took more time than I anticipated but was a great practice, I found new things to do in Adobe Illustrator and got to get better using the different tools it offers.
