Creating Icons | DI Week 1 - Project 1

As I started a new design course, I've been working with a book called Against The Clock (Adobe Illustrator Version). This week I read the first two projects offered in it and have been practicing with the Illustrator Interface and its basic tools, such as the pen tool (a designer's best friend), brush tool, shape tool, color and gradient tool, and some more...

As my first own project, I had to choose to create something similar to what was explained in the projects I read. The first project called "Campground Icons" was about how to a digital collection of icons that could be used to create signs, and the second project called "Regatta Artwork" was about creating the primary artwork for this year's event at Long Beach Regatta that would be used in a variety of different products (ads, posters, etc.).

I decided to create some icons for hospital/healthcare signs, that could be placed on walls mainly, that way when people see them they can feel oriented.

I came up with 5 icons, which I created using the pen tool, shape tool, color tool, and others. I also made use of some images as a way of guidance.

The icons are: Handicapped, No Smoking Area, Cafeteria, Toilets, and Emergency Area.

It was an interesting task, with more practice the icons can look so much better but as my first ones, I think I got some good results.
