Magazine Cover | DIE Week 4

For my Digital Image Editing course final exam, I had to create a future version of the Photoshop User Magazine.

I decided to create a version for the December issue of the magazine. First I look for the original covers to get an idea of what to do in my design. Then I started looking for my resources; images, typographies, color palette, etc. I found a nice stock image of someone dressed as Santa Claus, having some fun. Then I kept wondering, what can I do to this image? How can I edit it?. As I looked at some of the original cover versions of the magazine, I found one that had a kind of comic effect and I liked it. So I decided to create a Pop Art design. This art movement is characterized by being vibrant and bold, and I think I got a vibrant and bold design.

I chose complementary colors like red and green (the colors often associated with Christmas, which happens in December). I used different typographies and font sizes based on the originals. I created the Pop Art effect using filters, adjustment layers, and layer styles (like bevel and emboss, drop shadows, strokes, and more). And the content is all about things I've learned about Photoshop and Lightroom so far.

Learning about how to manipulate layers, how to use filters and the effects that the software offers, and learning about composition have been key tools to my journey, I'm finding it easier and more comfortable working on Photoshop.
