Designing Emotion | DIE Week 2 - Project 2

This week's project was about designing emotion: the client, a record label, wants to promote the emotional impact of a particular song. Using a combination of text and images show the feeling of a song. Don't focus on the title or lyrics of the song. Ask yourself, how does the song make you feel? What feelings and emotions create inside you, the listener?

I thought about a lot of songs for this project, but I was having a hard time deciding which song to base my design on. After I chose one, I asked myself those previous questions, started looking for my images and elements, and came up with this.

This design is about happiness and positivity, that's why I used colors that psychologically speaking can evoke strong feelings, like yellow (energy), orange (enthusiasm), green (balance), blue (tranquility), etc.

Happiness for me is also feeling comfortable, free, and feeling like I can do anything. I think the elements I chose: butterflies, sunflower, rainbow, landscape, and the laughing woman, all work perfectly together to make anyone smile and happy. It's a bright, sunny design.

The technique I used was the digital collage, I wanted that look of cut-and-paste images, and the tools and tricks that helped me create it were the use of blending modes, special brushes, layer styles (bevel, shadows), text effects, and filters.

If you're a Shrek fan, you may already know the song based on the text in the design, I'm a Believer by Smash Mouth is the song I chose, as every time I listen to it, it makes me want to dance (even though I don't dance). The text has a foil balloon effect which looks great and adds fun.

What song would you have chosen? How does it make you feel?
